This item is great. I received this item promptly (within 3 days of ordering it on standard shipping). It came in a regular sized USPS package slip (~9x12), and I initially thought the bag was going to be too small. When opening it, I realized it was just folded and efficiently packed. After that, awesomeness ensued...
It meets my every need. The material is thick and well stitched so it seems that the product will last beyond my death. I got lucky and received a bag with a zipper for the main compartment. My 14 inch laptop fits well inside. The two smaller compartments are also zippered. There's also a second zippered area within the main compartment and a third velcro pouch externally at the rear. The best part - each of the two buttoned water holders laterally placed fit my 32 oz Nalgene snuggly! I drink lots of water, so my magmatic dreams have come true! I am one happy creature.

This is a very nice bag. I got one for my birthday (fiancé knows I like 24, lol) so I've had it for about 6 months now. I carry i everywhere and carry everything I need in it. And it holds a LOT, be it extra clothes, food, water bottles, my laptop, books, camera equipment, drawing tools (art major) or any combination thereof.
The brass hardware is nice and very durable. As is the bag. Sometimes the strap needs adjusting (weight makes the strap lengthen at times) but that's an easy fix-I just reach around behind me an Ta-Da!
It looks like vintage military surplus, which is nice. the olive canvas sticks out in this world of stuffy leather messenger bags and crappy nylon ones. and it's definitely cool to meet with a client and everyone has their laptop bags and I pull mine out of this canvas army type bag.

Without getting too in-depth about the specifications of it, this bag is perfect for everyday use for school or work. I am in graduate school in Minnesota, and the bag does a great job at resisting what I put it towards. Carrying to and from class in the snow, rain, sleet, and keeping my essentials (notebooks, texts, and most importantly my computer) completely dry and warm during longer walks. It fits for my laptop perfectly, and can accommodate a couple textbooks, notebooks, and even an external hard drive. The strap is completely durable as well, although I had to replace it with a longer strap (at 5'10'' the strap barely reached my waist). If you're looking for a simple shoulder messenger bag to replace the typical backpack or briefcase, this is a great $20 replacement in durability, specifications, and aesthetic appearance.Customer Review: Heavyweight (non-paratrooper) version

For clarification the non-paratrooper bags do not have a zippered main, nor zippered pockets under the main flap as described in Bill B's excellent review. Other than that the bag I received is essentially the same as he describes. Heavy duty and somewhat rugged.
First thing I did was give it the standard test and ran it through a heavy-duty wash cycle along with a full load of clothes, then tossed it in the dryer and let it ride.
Came out a little wrinkly so I stuffed the main and front pockets with some newspaper, and loaded the side pockets each with a water bottle. Next morning it was like new - only softer like a nice pair of jeans!
Definitely worth the sub-20 dollar price tag.

Very nice bag! At first I was dissapointed because of the short strap that goes over your shoulder, but duh! it's adjustable! The inside capacity is quite nice as well, I can fit my 14 inch laptop, a reading book, a rather thick thesaurus/dictionary, a spiral notebook, and the bag has a zip pouch on the inside for pens, pencils ect. There are also pockets on the outside of the bag, 2 in the front and 2 on the side, for holding water bottles and what not. The bag itself is very strong and seems like with proper care that this bag could last someone for a long time. I was very pleased with my purchase and would definately recommend this bag to anyone who is lookin for a new way to carry their belongings.
